More Innovation - Brown & Wagner

In an article in the Boston Herald, Mayor Menino said his top priorities are redeveloping the former Filene’s site in Downtown Crossing and expanding the “Innovation District” on South Boston’s waterfront.

On Boston.com, Andrew Ryan reported that a visit by the head of the Food and Drug Administration and the Small Business Administration was one of a series of trips planned by the Obama administration to meet with business owners across the country about ways to reduce regulatory hurdles and encourage entrepreneurs. The visit also cast a welcome spotlight on Menino’s effort to attract technology companies, medical firms, and other new businesses to the 1,000 acres that his administration first dubbed the Innovation District in his 2010 inaugural address.

Immunetics, Inc., a provider of innovative clinical diagnostic tests, was highlighted last week as part of the roundtable and tour for President Barack Obama’s Startup America initiative.

“Immunetics came to the South Boston Innovation District after recognizing that an attractive business location with talented people, reasonable facility costs, and access to capital would be a great place to achieve their next stage of growth,” Mayor Menino said. “Now, the city’s partnership with Immunetics has generated benefits that exceeded all of our expectations. Together, we’ve created jobs, won millions of dollars in grants and contracts, and most importantly, achieved medical advances that will help millions of people overcome life-threatening diseases.”

Mayor Menino recently also announced that five important development projects for Boston are moving forward to schedule, including the $68.9m Seafood Exchange, seafood processing and distribution center. Julien Weston, Editor, WIREDvc reports “The new development will integrate the latest industry technology, facilities and equipment with green building technology and a sustainable design and will incorporate a public viewing station along the scenic harbor walk, allowing the public to experience the exciting, working water front.” ( read more…)
